LSU could be Emmanuel Moody's time to seriously shine. Sure, he hasn't been very effective on the Florida roster for the last couple of years; sure he's been injured plenty; sure he's had his problems with fumbles; but I am still convinced (maybe foolishly) that he has amazing talent and will shine when healthy and given the opportunity. I am also banking on the fact that he is a smart running back, has the best coaching staff around, and has learned how to secure the football).
My reasons are the following. First, we must assume that Tebow would not be able to play (I really hope that doesn't happen). But, assuming that he wouldn't, Brantley would take charge. Florida's offense is the Spread and therefore requires a balance of passing, speed on the perimeter, deception, and a versatile quarterback. There are simply too many options and playmakers to cover. It does not involve straight "North/South" running and a pocket passer who is rather immobile.
Brantley, being a pocket passer, will be better suited for classic defenses like LSU's that are not built for the freak that Tebow is. They will not have to worry about a quarterback running the ball, thereby keeping tabs on Florida's speedsters, and able to focus on sacking the quarterback more (our passing game is rather iffy still). These types of defense require a tough "North/South" runner.
Moody is Florida's toughest runner. He's also had plenty of accolades in the past which is why I am still foolishly convinced that he's better than people believe him to be. He will be pivotal in keeping the defense honest. They would not be able to simply double cover our speedy running backs (our most potent weapon), man cover our receivers, and blitz the QB.
Maybe he'll come through, maybe he won't. Maybe Florida will win without him, maybe they'll lose, but after seeing Tebow's injury, I am convinced that LSU will view Brantely as a pocket passer, not worry about him running all too much and will work on isolating our speedy running backs. Moody has kept a low profile for the better part of two seasons. I believe that he will be called upon, surprise LSU as well as the rest of the SEC, and keep our repeat alive.
